This blog malarkey seems to be helping me get things a bit better organised in my head. I hate lists of things, they make me feel on edge and always get lost or torn up. But writing things down in a more conversational way seems to make the process easier. So I think I'll continue with the rambling posts.
Anyway what was this blog post was going to be about? Hmmm ... Storage or my rather lack of it?
When it comes to being rather haphazard in my hobbies one of the things that always seems to be overlooked is just how the new shiney project is going to be stored. You'd think I have learned by now after spending many decades repeating the same thing. The issue has really come to a head since we had to move out of the house for several months due to building work. Having to pack everything away and now unpack, has highlighted how much space is taken up by the numerous projects. So maybe it's time I did something about it finally, I know my wife would really appreciate it.
So a new rule is about to be implemented. "If it doesn't have somewhere to go, it has to go."
I already dont like that rule, but I'm going to do my best to stick to it. Just writing this is making me realise I've got a suprisingly emotional attachment to the pile of "stuff" my random hobbying has created.
So what might the next hobby project be and will it need storage:
- The embroidery mojo has been burned out for now, though i do want to create a DM screen from some previous embroidery creations. Most likely this would end up for my son and as long as I make sure it folds up to fit into an IKEA kallax unit no special storage would be needed.
- Having organised my tree and shrubbery making supplies I might be tempted to have a play with them and make a tutorial or two. Definitely need storage solutions if I head down that route. I can see some big plastic boxes with removable trays and some way of securing model trees/shrubbery so they don't bounce about could come in handy.
- A few army projects are sat in boxes waiting for some attention. I do have a glass fronted display cabinet. But that's currently being used to store boxes rather than displaying the models it was acquired for. So it's more organising than making new storage, maybe a display insert for one of the shelves? Lol ... Or even a sort out of the shelving.
- In the last few months, I made some terrain for a local Dungeon Master to run some RPG sessions on. We really need some for the house as my eldest is starting to run games and there's nothing better than having some visual elements to help with the game emersion. I could look at some storage solutions maybe a box for tiles?
- I really fancy making some futuristic sci-fi terrain at some point soon. Maybe I can design it to have dual use and also act as part of a display? Making model storage a none issue.
Stay tuned for the next post where I'll hopefully actually get something done.
