Someone forgot to hit the save button the other week. So this is my second attempt at saying happy new year to anyone who may stumble upon this blog.
I'm not one for grand new year pledges. Though yesterday I was reminded why the war gaming hobby is something I still feel is an important part of my life even though I'm a 40 something bloke. It's being part of a community, meeting people who you would never have met otherwise and forging friendships that last a life time.
As one gets older it can be very easy to become isolated if you become ill or life throws a spanner in the works one way or another. It's definitely worth checking in on those who maybe have gone a little quiet of late. Not accepting the "I'm fine" auto answer people tend to give when asked if they are doing alright.
Some times it takes a face to face catch up to see through the facade. I managed to see a mate yesterday who I've not seen in years. Having a proper catch up it became clear he's definitely not fine. But spending the time to have a proper chat and putting the world to rights actually did lift both our heads a bit. Just what the doctor ordered really. We may not be able to get out to the local gaming club on a regular basis like we used to. But we're going to make sure that we have a regular catch up either in person or via video chat every week. You never know maybe even get a game in at some point.
Lol ... I can see a gaming session may involve a half time nap. Who cares really as long as fun is had and noone falls onto a model (speaking from experience they can be very pointy and don't make very comfy pillows) after drifting off for a snooze.
Anyway what have I been upto in the hobby in the first 3 weeks of the year?
Well I was gifted a rather nice proxy of Leman Russ the Primarch of the Space Wolves Legion for Warhammmer 30k aka House Heresy. Its a gentle nudge by a different friend to get my 30k project started. I've been planning on painting up my collection of Space Wolves to play for several years but failed to get it started. Lol ... It's sort of worked to kick start my hobby foo back up and running but not quite as he planned.
As I'm extremely rusty with the old paint brushes I'm loathe to mess up my big project jumping straight back in with them. So I've cobbled together a rag tag bunch of models kitbashed from none Games Workshop kits to represent a milita force of abhumans to use in the game. These will suit a more messy approach to painting while I get the old hand eye coordination back on line.
Yeah ... That's what I'm calling the 63 models that have appeared from a pile of Stargrave kits with a smattering of Frostgrave bits (mainly beastman/zombie heads) this last 3 weeks. It's not an ADHD side quest at all!!!
